World Ultimate + GUTS Competition 2008
The University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BCIn August 2008, 1,600 athletes from 21 countries around the globe gathered at the University of British Columbia for a week of intense competition. The game: Ultimate Frisbee— one of the world’s fastest-growing team sports.
Panther was enlisted at the planning stage of the event and spent many months consulting directly with the event’s Organizing Committee to design the specifics of the “World Ultimate + Guts Championships.” In addition to each day’s rotation of game play, the organizers wanted to create a unique experience for guests, with the goal to reflect the event motto: “only better” in every aspect throughout the week.

As a result, athletes were treated to live concerts each day and were able to experience some of Vancouver’s top local musicians, as well as their finest locally brewed beer. Each country showcased its own cultural flair in the Athletes’ Village: a centrally located social hub that provided members all of the necessary amenities of a sporting event, as well as a place to eat, play and socialize.
To celebrate the culmination of their efforts, the participants of “WUGC 2008” attended two concerts in UBC’s brand new Thunderbird Winter Sports Centre. Each evening, guests enjoyed a unique blend of local musicians, DJs and performers; each showcased by a spectacular light show.
